Lori Dorn has had 3 major passions in life. Horses came first, which she started riding relatively late at the age of 19, but she caught up quickly and after only a couple of years of immersing herself in the riding world, she'd relocated to the West Coast and had become a Hunt Seat Equitation champion, competing within the Amateur Division.
After a life changing personal loss, she decided to start anew by switching gears and pursuing photography, initially studying photojournalism at Santa Monica College and eventually moving on to photographing models and actors (many of them with readily recognizable faces), which she has continued to do for over 20 years while residing in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles.
While pursuing this second passion, Lori sometimes found that there were certain colors and textures that she desired as backgrounds while photographing her subjects, so she took it upon herself to create her vision by experimenting with painting her own backdrops. These initial forays into applying paint to canvas planted the seeds of a burgeoning new passion ... and it's love all over again.
As Lori says, "My attempt is to express pure emotion with colors and textures. Through using acrylic on canvas, I found a new and pure way to express my creativity ... to create more beauty in the world. Initially, after painting those first simple backdrops, my interest in continuing on and taking the process further was mostly an attempt to change my own environment, but now I hope to add an expression of personality and a touch of beauty to the homes and spaces of others"
